Translation
Why translation?
Usually we think in our mother tongue and translate the words into English and then speak. When we do that, we tend to make mistakes as the construction of a sentence and usage of grammar differ from one language to another. To identify this problem and to show the difference and to use English without any errors, this exercise in translation is included.
Transliteration: Transliteration means, writing a native language, using English letters or
vice-versa.
Example
Group discussion – Kalanthuraiyadal.
Kalanthuraiyadal – This Tamil word is written using the English letters. This is called
Transliteration. Now a days, this has become very common especially for actors and leaders in India. Suppose an actor from Mumbai acts in Tamil movies, he writes down the dialogue in Hindi or Marathi (his mother tongue) so that it will be easy for him to deliver the dialogue without making any mistakes. Similarly the leaders, who visit the rural area, can address the gathering in their native tongue using transliteration.
